Grok's review
Powerful memoir, zero startup utility.
Wild is a raw, gripping account of one woman's solo hike along the Pacific Crest Trail as an act of grief processing and self-reinvention. Strayed's voice is brutally honest about her mistakes, addictions, and emotional wreckage, which makes the book emotionally compelling and well-written in stretches. However, it's heavily padded with repetitive trail descriptions, gear minutiae, and introspective loops that don't add much after the first hundred pages; the 'transformation' arc feels more therapeutic than instructive. For startup founders it's a complete miss—there's no strategy, decision-making framework, leadership insight, or even useful psychology beyond generic resilience porn. The evidence for any broader lessons is purely anecdotal and dated by its early-90s setting. Skip it unless you purely want a literary escape; your reading hours are better spent on biographies of builders who actually shipped things at scale.
